The Full Story about
Shirakawa-go
It is one of the most heavy snowfall areas in Japan, and in this region with a harsh climate that was said to be an unexplored region of Japan until a while ago, a private house made of gassho-zukuri has been living for as long as four months while enduring heavy snowfall.
Centered around a gassho-zukuri house that has been built for hundreds of years, there is a "living world heritage site" where the nature that nurtures the life of the village, the long history, and the modern life are in perfect harmony.

Unexplored region of Japan
The "Gassho-zukuri Village", which is registered as a World Heritage Site, is known as a village where many large and small gassho-zukuri buildings remain, and people's lives are still practiced there.
In addition, there are plenty of sightseeing spots where you can experience traditional wisdom and techniques, and magnificent nature, such as "Hiraseonsen", which is the source of the mountain worship at the foot of Mt. Hakusan.

Shirakawa Village is a rural village surrounded by mountains. While it is cool and comfortable in the summer, it is covered with snow in the winter.
In February, the amount of snow can reach 170 cm or more.
The people of Shirakawa-go's ancestors have taken advantage of this climate to live.

In the Ogimachi village, we have established the three principles of "do not sell, do not lend, do not destroy" and do not renovate the exterior of private houses. Although it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (cultural heritage), it is said that not only the buildings and landscapes but also the mutual aid activities of the residents rooted in the area received high praise.
